The AIARE 1 is designed to teach you how to plan and execute a safe trip in avalanche terrain using a forecast from an avalanche center. Plain and simple. In addition to learning about avalanches and recreating in avalanche terrain, you will learn how to perform a companion rescue in the event that someone else gets caught and buried in an avalanche. A victim buried by an avalanche requires the help of someone else to save their life.
We are offering five AIARE 1 courses for the 2024-2025 season.
The Rescue course will teach you how to perform a companion rescue and then it will build upon the basics by introducing advanced topics such as multiple burials, deep burials, close proximity burials, multi-party scene management, and more. You will participate in, and may lead, realistic scenarios requiring careful consideration.
We are offering three AIARE Rescue courses for the 2024-2025 season.
The AIARE 2 completes the progression and will challenge you to target uncertainty in your trip planning and execution as a way to fill in gaps within your knowledge of the prevailing avalanche conditions.
Completing the AIARE 2, you will have a solid foundation on which to build your pantheon of backcountry tours and mountaineering objectives in more complex terrain and snowpacks. As you gain experience, you will be more effective at contextualizing new snowpacks and avalanche problems because of your AIARE training.
We are not offering any public AIARE 2 courses for the 2024-2025 season, but if you can wrangle four or more people, we can run an private AIARE 2 course.
