SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 Portland, OR: Wylark Mountaineering and Mazamas are thrilled to announce two lodge-based AIARE courses which will take place at the historic Mazama Lodge on Mount Hood this upcoming winter.
The foundation of these two lodge-based offerings will be the AIARE 1 course; the industry standard curriculum for learning about avalanches and managing risk in avalanche terrain. Each course at the lodge will include meals and overnight accommodations. Mazamas will provide students with free avalanche rescue gear rental for the duration of the course (transceiver, shovel, and probe).
- January 9 – 10, 2027: Snowshoe-based AIARE 1 at Mazama Lodge
- February 13 – 14, 2027: Ski/splitboard-based AIARE 1 at Mazama Lodge
The Mazamas is a pillar of Pacific Northwest mountaineering and represents a diverse community of people who love the mountains. The Mazamas is where countless people in the region go to learn and grow as mountain travellers. Wylark is honored to be a part of their story.
Registration for these two courses will be handled through Mazamas' website like any other Mazamas course. It is open to Mazamas members as well as non-members. This course will result in an AIARE 1 certificate which is recognized by all Providers associated with the American Avalanche Association (A3).
