Participants taking the two-day Leave No Trace Skills Course learn Leave No Trace skills, ethics, and have several opportunities to practice these low-impact techniques during the course. Leave No Trace Skills Course graduates are prepared to discuss the Leave No Trace principles with others and to practice low-impact skills and techniques on future endeavors. In addition, you can expect to pick up some great backpacking tips with broad applicability that can help set you up for longer distance multi-day hikes, alpine climbing, and more.

This course is designed for everyone. From those who wish to learn basic backpacking skills to outdoor guides, just about anyone can benefit from this course.

Come spend a weekend with other people wishing to help leave nature better than they found it and take the information and practices you learn on this course back to your own individual context, whether that be hiking, kayaking, horse-back riding, climbing, or anything else that has the ability to impact nature adversely.

This course will be taught by two experienced instructors and includes two days of instruction on Leave No Trace skills with an overnight in the field! In addition to the learning, we aim to ensure that all participants are happy and comfortable at all times. Participants are responsible for bringing their own food, tent, clothing, and sleeping bags. This course will result in a certificate issued by Leave No Trace.

Our typical venues for this program are located on the Mount Hood and Gifford Pinchot National Forests, making this material accessible to those living in Portland, Hood River, or Bend and beyond.
